Pride Festival Yard Signs
For 2026, the Lexington Pride Festival is excited to feature an exhibit celebrating Kentucky’s LGBTQIA+ history!
Supported by a grant from JustFundKY, and produced in collaboration with the Faulkner Morgan Archive, this exhibit features 50 yard signs celebrating LGBTQIA+ Kentuckians! After the Lexington Pride Festival, the yard signs will be available for pride festivals across Kentucky to rent.
These yard signs play an important role in celebrating Pride Month by looking back at LGBTQIA+ people, places, and moments in Kentucky’s history. This project highlights 50 people, places, and moments that played an important role in Kentucky’s LGBTQIA+ history. Featuring figures like Sweet Evening Breeze, Henry Faulkner, and John Fryer, alongside landmarks such as the Bar Complex and The Country, ensures that the installation captures both individual stories and broader cultural milestones. These representations serve to honor the contributions of LGBTQIA+ Kentuckians across various fields and contexts, from entertainment to activism. By showcasing a diverse array of perspectives and experiences, the exhibit works to deepen understanding, foster connection, and inspire continued dialogue within the community and beyond.
During a time where the LGBTQIA+ community is constantly under attack, these yard signs showcase queer Kentuckians and remind LGBTQIA+ people in Kentucky that they belong here and are an important part of our history. This project allows us to bring together a community of artists, activists, educators, politicians, entertainers, and advocates from a wide array of social classes, races, ethnicities, religions, abilities, and geographic regions to celebrate LGBTQIA+ history.
