Kick Off Pride Month with FMA!
CELEBRATE LGBTQ HISTORY THIS
PRIDE MONTH
It might still be May, but who says we can’t start celebrating Pride Month a few weeks early?
This Pride Month, we invite you to join FMA as we celebrate Kentucky’s LGBTQ history and remind the world of the queer joy that we hold as Kentuckians.
At a time when our LGBTQ community is constantly under attack, finding the joy can be difficult. However, looking to the past provides a unique opportunity to remind ourselves that queer people are in Kentucky and have always been in Kentucky and will forever be in Kentucky. Our vision at FMA is to live in a world where the LGBTQ community is protected, included, and celebrated without question. Through our exhibits and programming, we hope to provide a sense of belonging to LGBTQ Kentuckians and to unequivocally affirm our community’s place in the rich tapestry of Kentucky’s past, present and future.
These stories are important to preserve, but even more important to share and celebrate. We really want to emphasize the magic of finding the joy in queer history. So often we talk about the difficulties and struggles of that history (which is definitely a large part of our archive) but looking at the way that queer people were having fun, enjoying themselves, had community, and documenting themselves is just as important to see.
